The manufacturing process is highly automated, featuring many robots. The US plant received many awards and continues to run at the highest levels of quality and innovation as you’d expect from a market leader.

Take a look at the manufacturing process of a chainsaw.

How a STIHL chainsaw is built

There is a complex and highly sophisticated assembly line involved in the production of Stihl chainsaws.

The steel guide bars are made at the US plant, engines are assembled, casings are formed, and chain brakes are installed. While some of the parts, components, and materials come from overseas, these truly are American-made chainsaws.

Each model is often available in a base model with upgraded versions having higher specs or improved features. Find out more about the meaning of Stihl model designations here.

It’s always good to support the local US economy by buying products made in the country. Let’s hope they don’t move some of the production to another country, where the quality assurance process may not be as high.

Stihl has made a massive contribution to the development and improvement of chainsaw technology, both is safety and performance. And they continue to innovate with the likes of Stihl Carbon chainsaw.

  1. I have a Stihl 024 I bought in 1983. I’ve had it rebuilt once, 10 years ago. Today it started on the 3rd pull, but I needed to adjust the idle after sitting since last fall. I then proceeded to cut up about half a cord of maple for splitting. I don’t know how many hours I have on my 024, but it has been a reliable tool through clearing property, cutting firewood, emergency storm tree removal, you name it. I may never buy another Stihl, but only because I bought right the first time.

  2. I bought a Stihl 038 in May of 1980 and the dealer told me at the time if I use Stihl chain oil and Stihl 2 cycle oil the saw will last me my lifetime. well, I have used this saw since 1980 and this year It started on first pull after sitting a year. it is starting to get tired so am I. what a great piece of equipment that has served my needs for over 40 years. I agree I bought the right saw the first time.
